Semitruck dangers and how to seek compensation after an injury

Many people use the I-12 corridor to bypass the longer I-10 route when going through Louisiana. This means that the corridor is always busy. It also means that people who are driving on this interstate are at an increased risk of being involved in an accident because of the fast speeds and the number of vehicles that traverse the interstate.

When you are driving along this corridor, you can take all the steps you want to so that you can stay safe but you are still partially at the mercy of the other drivers on the road. If you are involved in an accident, consider these points about seeking compensation.

What can oil rig workers do about child custody cases?

Life on an oil rig means that you leave your loved ones behind for extended periods. During this time, you work long hours so that you can earn money to support them. When you come home from the rig, there is probably nothing that you look forward to more than seeing your loved ones.

Unfortunately, not all women are made to be the wife of an oil rig worker. Some women just can't handle it and walk away. This means that the man might come home from the rig to an empty house. This is a huge problem, especially if he has children.

5 reasons for aggressive driving

Aggressive driving can lead directly to accidents, and you'd never engage in it yourself. After all, your kids are usually in the car -- your goal is to set a good example for them and to keep them safe. However, even though you think you're driving safely one day, you become the target of another driver's road rage or aggressive driving. Why is this so hard to avoid? A few reasons from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration include:

5 tips for breaking the news of your divorce to your kids

For the most part, you're happy about your upcoming divorce. You and your spouse aren't angry with each other and you both think the split is for the best. You're planning for your future and looking at it as a fresh start at 35 years old. Maybe you want to move or start your own business or look for someone new who will make you happier in a second marriage.

Still, as much as you've made your peace with things, you still have to break it to the kids. They may take it pretty hard. Their emotional well-being should be one of your main goals throughout this entire process. Below are a few tips for talking to them:

Accused of theft? There is a defense for you

It was an innocent mistake. You picked up some nested home décor containers at the department store, paid for your purchases and walked out. The alarm started ringing as you stepped through the exit and security came over to check your receipt. It turns out that the cashier had not rung up your purchases correctly and several items that you thought you paid for were not included on the receipt. The store called the police and opted to press charges for theft.

Fortunately, there are several legal defenses that apply to charges of theft. Even if the facts of your case support the claim that you took property without permission, your attorney can still provide a proper defense. For example, your alleged theft occurred due to an honest mistake, which may be easy to prove if there is security footage available.

Commercial trucking accidents are common and can be devastating

Driving can be dangerous. Car accidents are the leading cause of death among children and remain a major source of injury and death among adults as well. When the other vehicle involved in your accident is a semitruck or eighteen-wheeler, the potential for serious injury or death increases substantially. Their size and weight make them capable of massive amounts of destruction. If you or a loved one has been in an accident with a commercial truck, you may need the services of an experienced personal injury attorney.

Causeway fatality draws focus to bridge safety

It's a drive many St. Tammany Parish residents make twice daily without a second thought, crossing the nearly 24 miles of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway routinely and without incident. But when problems occur over the spans, they can become catastrophic quickly and with little warning.

Part of the reason for the danger is that there is literally no way to take evasive action when you are on the bridge and something goes awry. Whether it's a pile-up of cars ahead of you, a blown tire on an 18-wheeler, driver inattention or some other road hazard, unless a driver is near one of the few turnarounds on the Causeway, the only option is braking and praying.

Who is responsible for teenage brain injuries?

Ever since the lawsuits in the NFL began, the topic of concussion injury is much more prevalent in young athlete's lives. More precautions are being taken into consideration to prevent these serious injuries. However, who is at fault if your child does suffer from a serious brain injury?

Concussion symptoms, diagnosis and response

Concussions are brain injuries that are caused from hard blows to the head. When the head is bumped, the brain vigorously hits the inside of the skull, causing damage to the affected areas. The severity of the concussion depends on how hard the hit, the age of the person hit and the number of prior head injuries.

What makes high-asset divorce risky?

Divorces can be both emotionally and financially draining for anyone involved. However, settling a divorce can be even more difficult and stressful for high-net-worth individuals if they do not have the necessary legal assistance from an experienced divorce lawyer.

Since high-net-worth individuals have more assets, there can be more to fight over -- and there is more at stake. In most cases, their financial assets are also more complex. Issues that add complexity in high-asset divorce cases include:

Most use a cellphone while driving, but few are willing to admit it

New data is showing that distracted driving is a bigger problem than most of us are willing to admit.

According to research recently released by the auto insurer Everquote, most people consider themselves to be safe drivers even though they secretly engage in risky behavior like using a cellphone while driving.

After surveying 2,300 drivers, Everdrive found that 96 percent of drivers said that they are safe and only 56 percent of those drivers admitted to using their cellphones while driving.

However, after gathering data from another 35,000 drivers using its smartphone app, Everdrive found that 96 percent of all drivers actually used their phones at least once while behind the wheel in the past 30 days.
