Zara was awarded an "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest possible rating in both ability & ethical standards by peers. Less than 5% of women lawyers have been recognized with an AV Preeminent rating.

While attending law school, Zara joined the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic advocating for wetland protection. Her efforts, along with that of other members of the Clinic, resulted in the establishment of the Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge in Mandeville, Louisiana.
